Chapter 94: An invitation
There was another brief pause as it seemed for a second that his words had gotten to my mother. She was dumbfounded for a while, not knowing what to say and I could almost see the gears in her head shifting as she was wringing her hands together.
One would have thought that she was actually hiding something, that there was indeed a true motive behind all of her actions, but no one found out about it just yet.
Thoughts and questions were swirling in my mind like a damn hurricane at that moment when my mother scoffed loudly, snapping me back to reality in an instant.
There was a nonchalant look plastered across her face as she glared at Xavier. "What the hell are you talking about? I have no motive. How dare you accuse me of intentionally trying to ruin my own daughter’s life and career?!" She snarled as rage spread through her body like a wildfire.
Evelyn decided to chime in too as well, of course she was siding my mother with a slight smirk playing on her lips. "Exactly, how could you say such things, Xavier?" She asked with a deep frown etched onto her face and her lips pursed. "The auntie Jennifer I know wouldn’t do this on purpose," she added, her words of support putting a smile on my mother’s face as she held onto her arm.
He arched a brow at her, letting out a low chuckle. "Oh, really? What she did here today says otherwise."
She narrowed her eyes into thin slits, glaring at him. "You don’t know what you are talking about!"
"That’s enough!" I found myself shouting this time, my sharp voice piercing through the tension that was lingering in the air between us and gasps rose from the crowd. I sucked in a deep breath and stared right into her eyes. "We know exactly what we are talking about. I think the two of you have done enough today. Please leave, I just want to finish this interview."
There was silence that settled among us as the crowd continued to watch with anticipation, waiting to see what they would say.
