Chapter 50: Call the guards!
Her taunting voice echoed inside my head and I snapped my head around to meet her eyes. I watched as the corners of her lips curled upwards into a knowing smirk, smugness radiating off every inch off her skin.
I marched towards her, closing the distance between us in a few large strides while I kept my eyes on her. I grabbed her wrist, my nails digging into her flesh.
"What did you do?!" I questioned as we locked eyes.
She yanked her wrist out of my tight grasp and smiled at me.
"Nothing, just catching up with them. After all, it’s been awhile since I have seen them, I just wanted to know how they are doing and what they have been up to," she commented nonchalantly, feigning innocence as the smile on her face grew wider this time, stretching across her face. She took a step forward. "And guess what? I found out that they hadn’t met you and apparently Xavier had never mentioned a word about you and your pregnancy..." she mused as her eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
The same thoughts from the other day began to creep into my mind once again. I couldn’t help but wonder if he was hiding something from me as a million questions swirled in my mind like a damn hurricane.
"Don’t you find that suspicious?" She questioned this time when I hadn’t said a word, her sharp words piercing through the air and snapping me back to reality.
"No, I don’t," I said, my voice firm and certain yet I didn’t even believe myself. I hid the doubt and suspicion on my face with a cold expression. "He just hadn’t mentioned it. He’s been busy."
She cackled. "Busy?" She repeated, raising her perfectly groomed brow at me. "No one is that busy. Don’t say I didn’t warn you... There’s something suspicious going on. And I won’t say a word about this to his parents if you sign the documents and let me work with you."
