Chapter 456: I Will Follow You
Bishop stood on the steps where Hattie had just slammed the door in his face, the echo of her final words still ricocheting inside his skull.
"You don’t get to wish for a crown and then whine that you have to put in the work."
She had been so disgusted when she had said it, but Bishop really didn’t understand. To do the most effective thing, in the least amount of time, it was obvious to go to her for the solution. How did that get turned around to him not wanting to do the work?
He killed for the Sanctuary, he protected the humans, and the demons. It wasn’t his fault that he didn’t know the first thing about creating a city...
Then again, he would bet that the majority of people didn’t know where to start.
Grumbling under his breath, he took one last look at the solid blockade in front of him. The door hadn’t just shut; it had sealed, locked, and buried him six feet under the weight of failure. Behind him, the crowd of survivors murmured like restless ghosts. They weren’t just looking at him; they were looking to him. For hope. For a plan.
For salvation.
To fix everything that was wrong in their lives... and yet, he had nothing.
"Sir?" Walt interjected, his voice cut through the static in Bishop’s mind and forcing him back into reality. "Where do we take them? We’ve got children, pregnant women, the sick, injured...hell, even our soldiers are barely standing."
