Chapter 444: A Band-Aid Solution
I looked at the bright silver canister in Eric’s hand, sparking in the middle of the afternoon. It was like some holy beacon, a promise to those who were scared.
"We’re saved," sighed one of the women even as she collapsed into the arms of the man beside her. "Thank you." Bursting out crying, she clung to the man as her legs gave out from under her.
I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow as she looked at Eric like he had hung the sun, the moon, and all the stars, completely ignoring the man who was actually keeping her upright. Eric smirked before winking at me.
Holding the can out, he pressed down on the button, sending a white cloud out. Everything that it touched froze. The centipedes fell over, their legs in the air as they twitched one final time.
"It works," sighed a man as he dropped to his knees and picked up the thing. Holding it between his thumb and index finger like a limp noodle, he shook it back and forth a few times. The goofy grin on his face as he looked at the crowd around him in childish wonder made me feel slightly guilty.
These centipedes weren’t going to die that easily. Did Eric not remember Walt’s wish? He wanted things to be fun and interesting. If the bugs died that easily, it wouldn’t be fun, and it definitely wouldn’t be interesting.
As if to prove my point, the centipede, clearly biding its time, lunged forward. The thing that was the size of my hand hung onto the man’s face like a face hugger before disappearing into his mouth.
"I don’t think it worked," I announced, blinking as the man’s eyes went blank for a second before he spun around and tried to race away. Wrath, like a predator seeing prey, ran after him.
The poor bug dude didn’t stand a chance with Wrath, and before I could even blink, my Sin was carrying the man back by the back of his collar. "What do you want to do with him?" he asked, looking directly at me even as he threw the man at my feet.
