Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse

Chapter 428: Spoken Like A True Loser

After Adam left, Sophia and Eve glanced at Alicia for a moment before coming to their feet and exiting the room. "This is a slippery slope, ’Licia," sighed Réne as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "No one is going to want you in their bedrooms. Take a step back and think things through before you do anything that you can’t take back."

"You, too?" sneered Alicia, her face dropping as she glared at Réne. "When you and I started this base all those years ago, we agreed that we would do whatever was needed to help people and make sure that humans are the only ones left standing at the end of it all. Well guess what? The zombies are gone. They are no longer hunting us, and we are still stagnant. If this keeps up, nothing is going to change. This will be our new normal, and I don’t want that."

Looking down at her flat stomach, Alicia pressed her hand against it. "The only way forward is to bring about a new generation. The government did it after the Great Wars... how is this any different?"

Réne let out a long sigh. "The government didn’t force the issue. The soldiers returned home and were reunited with their wives and girlfriends. That was what brought about a population boom. Not forced breeding."

"Fuck," grunted Alicia, smacking her forehead. Réne, thinking that she had a change of heart, smiled gently at her. He never could stay mad at her for long. She was too precious to him.

"I forgot that I was going to tell everyone that they needed to provide genetic material to the labs. How else were we going to be able to keep track of the bloodlines? We can’t have two people too close to each other genetically to give birth to a child. That will taint everything."

Both Luca’s and Réne’s mouths dropped at that. "You want us to have a catalogue of everyone’s genetic code?"

"To prevent inbreeding and to pair people up for the most optimal offspring? Of course," shrugged Alicia as she stood up and quickly left the room. "We’ll choose people based on expected results. What was I thinking? Pulling names out of a hat?" Her voice could still be heard by the two men left alone in the conference room until the door to the stairway slammed shut.
