Chapter 401: A Fall From Faith
"Oh, Baby girl," murmured Daddy, turning me around so that my face was buried in his chest. "It’s not that you have to learn how to love... everyone loves differently, and that’s just fine. It’s finding someone who understands your version of love and is happy with that version."
I nodded my head, but I didn’t actually agree with the man. I mean, there had to be one right way to do it, right? I get that I was unlovable; Mother proved that over and over again. And even I was smart enough to know that Père’s version of loving wasn’t right.
"What did you think of the heart that Dimitri brought you?" asked Daddy, changing the subject.
"I liked it," I replied, confused. Who wouldn’t like something like that? It’s like the head that Father Khaos brought me. They were amazing gifts.
"And how do you feel about Tank stalking you and knowing every last detail about you?" pressed Daddy, but this time, I was confused.
"Tank doesn’t do that," I sighed. "But if he did, I wouldn’t mind. Why would I? I mean, I think it’s kind of sweet that he would be willing to go to that length to be with me."
"I do," sighed a voice as Tank stepped out of the shadows of the jungle canopy. "In fact, I think I break out in a rash if I don’t have you in my sight at all times."
I blinked at Tank as he went to stand shoulder to shoulder with Daddy. Confused, I wondered if he was there when I met up with Miriam. When he nodded his head at my unasked question, I felt the tension in my shoulders relax.
I thought I was alone with a woman I would probably never be around again. I was my most honest self with her, and yet, Tank didn’t seem to mind.
