Chapter 394: Plans For The Future
"Sugar high, honey bun," I sang, not caring about the fact that I was clearly off-key. Pulling out a lollypop from my space, I took off the wrapper as I continued my song. "You know that I love you so. I can’t help myself; I love you and nobody else."
A voice cleared behind me, but I ignored it. The song was now living rent-free in my head, and if I had to suffer, the rest of them had to suffer with me. Sticking the candy into my mouth, I continued to hum the song as we strolled through the jungle.
Behind us, smoke curled up to the sky as the village continued to smolder. I wasn’t worried about the jungle catching fire. After all, with all the humidity that the guys were complaining about, it would take a lot for the plants to burn. What I was worried about was the village not burning enough.
Selene and Rhys had managed to escape, somehow. I actually had to give them credit for their abilities. Like a cockroach that just refused to die, I could only assume that Selene and Rhys would live long lives. Hopefully, the jungle would throw a thorn or something their way every so often.
After all the shit that they had done, they didn’t exactly deserve their own happily ever after.
With every step we took forward, the ground behind us shook. I could see the raptors hiding in the plants and shrubs on either side of the path as they followed us home. Even Rexy was smart enough to follow along. I mean, he didn’t have much choice in the matter, but that was neither here nor there.
What belonged to me would always be mine, and it was time the rest of the world learned that lesson.
"Pudding Pop," grunted Beau, right before he wrapped his arm around my waist. "This is cruel and unusual punishment," he continued, his eyes never leaving the lollypop between my lips. "Being jealous of a candy is a whole new low that I never saw coming."
"Don’t worry," I whispered to him. Rising up on my tip toes, I kissed Beau on the cheek. "I’m sure that I will love your candy on a stick just as much."
Dancing out of his way, I spun in a small circle before walking backward toward the house. The men followed silently behind me. Some, like Dante and Chang Xuefeng, had one of their hands in their pocket like they were simply taking a stroll, while others, like Tank and Salvatore, were constantly scanning for a threat.
It was amazing how different each one of the guys was, and yet, they complemented each other like snacks that were both sweet and salty. I don’t know how I got so lucky to be able to keep them, but I was going to fight tooth and nail against anyone who tried to take them from me.
"So," murmured Dante, seeing that I was looking at all of them. "What comes next?"
