Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse

Chapter 330: Failed Experiments

The screams and snarls coming from the outside world were nothing more than a symphony of mockery as Bishop realized just how bad things had gotten.

Looking out the window from his 15th floor office, he could easily see the puddles of blood and limbs reflecting in the subtle moonlight. Little figures raced around in the darkness, bumping into each other even as the Z-Pack continued to herd them into a single group.

There was something almost hypnotic about it all like dolphins swimming around a pool of fish to make it easier to make the kill. The animals, more zombie than human, more wolf than zombie, criss-crossed with one another as they snapped at the heels of the poor citizens.

"We need to do something," snarled Réne, no longer able to sit on the couch. "We can’t just let everyone die like this. We promised a safe haven from the outside world. What will happen if it gets out that our walls are better at keeping people in than they are at letting them out?"

"That’s your takeaway?" sneered Bishop. His hands tightened into fists unconsciously as the door to his office opened and closed. "We have to protect our reputation? What about all the people dying? What about them? Where is the concern for them?"

"Oh, Honey," murmured Sophia as she rubbed Bishop’s back. Not once did she bother to look outside; instead, she gave her entire attention to the man in front of her. "This is a new type of world," she continued. "We can’t save everyone. Even an angel has to understand that, right?"

"What do you mean, angel?" demanded Alicia from where she was sitting on the couch. "There is no such thing as angels and demons."

"There is a lot more to this world than you know," smiled Sophia, looking over at her best friend. Even with everything going on, life was good. Libby was tucked away in bed, a guard at her door, and there was no way for a zombie of any kind to penetrate the central tower of New Dawn Sanctuary. She and hers were safe, and that was all that mattered.

"No, there isn’t," replied Alicia. Bishop turned away from the massacre going on beneath him and saw the look of disgust on Alicia’s face. "There are humans, and there are monsters. That is it. If you aren’t human..."
