Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse

Chapter 313: A Dream or A Nightmare?

"You have to help me," begged the man in front of me, his eyes wide as he held out a single hand. His other hand was gripping the bars of the cage he was currently in. It was bigger than mine; he was able to kneel in his even as he struggled to touch me. "Please, help me."

"And just how do you expect me to be able to do that?" I asked from behind my own bars. I was lying on my stomach at the moment, my legs bent behind me. I could feel the coldness of the metal seeping into my stomach as I fought against the shiver.

"You need to kill me; you grant wishes, right? Everyone here knows that you can give us what we want as long as we ask for it. And not I am asking. Please, kill me. I want to die... I need to die. Why aren’t you hurrying up and killing me?!?"

Closing my eyes, I fought against the panic starting to grow inside of me. This wasn’t real. I wasn’t in a cage. I was asleep on Salvatore’s chest as his fingers drifted up and down my spine. This was just a dream. Nothing more than a dream.

"Really?" hissed the man, the expression on his face morphing from a look of desolation to one of smugness. His hand that was trying to reach me suddenly stopped moving, his flesh turning from pale white to yellow, to blue... to back. "You think this is a dream? Oh, sugar plum, this isn’t a dream, it’s a fucking nightmare. But there is no place for you to escape. Like me, you are stuck here. And no one is coming to save you."

No, that wasn’t possible. My guys would look for me; they were strong in their own right. They were the Seven Deadly Sins, the Angel of Death, and Ramsey, my Hound. They would find me... and I would be free.

Movement out of the corner of my eye caused me to look back at the hand just in front of my face before it detached itself from the man’s arm. The moment it fell, it was spread out, all five fingers pointing in a different direction.

The skin covering the bones and muscles wasn’t like my Pride demon; the blackness looked like dying flesh. Something just under the surface seemed to be wiggling frantically as if excited. Suddenly, the hand jumped up, the tip of all five fingers pressed together before it scurried toward my cell.

Scared, I rolled over and curled into a ball, trying to get away from the appendage that was now rushing toward me. The bars of my cage didn’t even slow it down as it jumped inside, reaching me at a speed my brain was barely keeping up with.

"What pretty flesh," purred the man as he stared at me, his head cocked to the side at an unnatural angle. "I bet you will taste the best out of everyone here. So fresh, so soft, so tender." With each word the man spoke, one of the fingers on the hand would stroke whatever part of me was exposed.

It wasn’t until that exact moment that I caught on to the fact that the reason why I was so cold was because I was completely naked.
