Chapter 305: Welcome To Hell
’No,’ scoffed the voice inside my head as my vision started to turn red around the edges. ’I’m telling you to breathe. Grab Tank’s fur. Feel him under your hand. Concentrate on the movement of his muscles. How does he feel? How does he smell? Focus everyone on him and let the rest of the world drop away.’
’And if I don’t want that?’ I smirked even as I did what she asked. She had yet to lead me astray, and I was willing to concede the fact that not everyone here needed to die. My problem was that I just couldn’t figure out why they needed to live, either.
After all, they were going on their merry way as underneath their feet, people were being locked in cages that wouldn’t even fit Tank. All they cared about was themselves, and so... why did they need to live?
"You’ve stopped breathing," murmured Eric into my ear, unknowingly echoing the voice inside my head. "I need you to breathe for me, pretty girl."
Ever so slowly, as if every muscle in my body was protesting the movement, I looked at the situation around me. The bitch from the checkpoint was salivating over Salvatore... my man... only he didn’t look like my man.
Désiré didn’t seem to know who he should be paying attention to, even though he had already given me a part of his soul. You would think that if he tied himself to me for eternity, he would be more concerned about me.
But then again, I guess I was just being a petty bitch who wanted everyone’s attention.
"Princess," murmured Chang Xuefeng as he walked up behind me and wrapped me in his embrace. "Everything is going to be fine," he assured me, pulling me against his chest. "I’m going to put you down for a nap, and then I will be the one to figure all this shit out. Okay? Is that okay with you if I do that?"
I could hear Eric sucking in a breath, but everything was just getting too loud and overwhelming. The voices of the present were overlapping with the voices of the past, and I had no idea what was real and what was fake.
