Chapter 265: A Lot Shorter
Even though we had been ’split up’, we were still very much together as we started walking up the broken-down escalator. Gideon and Daddy were in the lead, while Tank and some random guy went second.
From there, each one of the guys was paired up with a member of the Blackguard until it was just me, Ronan, and some other random dude. Since there were more guards than there were Sins, the rest of them divided themselves up in some way.
My attention, however, wasn’t on all the people who surrounded me but on the poor sap they had paired up with Ronan. He was trying to control his temper, and I continued to natter on constantly, but I could see his hand gripping the butt of his rifle as he debated on hitting me or not.
Ronan was about to open his mouth to say something when we had just stepped off the escalator to the second floor. I barely managed to breathe out, "Oh, goodie," before we heard the echoing sound of a safety being released.
"Get down!" growled the Blackguard beside me as he pushed me to the floor. However, it was too late for him. A bullet pierced through his skull right where his helmet wouldn’t cover.
The rest of the Blackguards on our side dropped to their knees as gunfire erupted around us. What little glass was left in the storefront windows exploded around us as the bullets shredded the naked mannequins.
My guys, on the other hand, scoffed at the men on the ground, swearing and clutching bullet wounds as they continued to stand, not at all scared. In fact, I was pretty sure that that was Dante’s disdainful look. The one that made you feel about two feet tall.
"Fucking scavengers," growled Gideon as he frantically looked around for a place to hide. Unfortunately for him and his team, there was really nothing around us that could act as cover. "I knew this was too easy."
"Scavengers?" grunted Dimitri, his head cocked to the side as if he had found a new toy to play with. "What are scavengers?"
