Chapter 236: To The Victor
The sound of boots striking the ground gave way as Adam and Réne’s army let loose a bone-curdling war cry. Crows and other birds, who had decided to watch the show in case there was any food to scavenge, took to the skies, their own cries melding with the men.
Some men raced forward while others, unable to keep up the speed for such a long distance, fell behind. It was like something out of a movie where the rebels attacked the government army, knowing that they would probably not survive but not willing to back down either.
"So stupid," I sighed as a cup of sweet tea appeared on a table beside the swing. When I didn’t immediately pick it up, the house nudged it forward a bit until it was perching precariously on the edge.
Snapping it up before it fell, I took a sip and sighed. It was exactly how Elizabeth had made it, and even though it was cold, I felt the warmth coming from it. I felt her warmth. Humming happily, I couldn’t hold back my smile as Dimitri stepped off the step and dropped his shoulders.
What happened next was not something I had ever expected to see. Instead of Dimitri being the dominant body or Wrath taking over to win the fight, it was like they decided to combine their strengths to create a whole new creature.
Tattoo-like marks started at his hands and flowed up his arms and down his entire body, lighting up for a second under Dimitri’s clothes before settling down. Some of the lines were thick, while others were thin, and each one of them looked like one swirl connecting to another in an almost dizzying pattern.
However, instead of the black ink I was expecting, these marks looked like living fire as they gently pulsed. There were no horns or a tail to tell me that Wrath was front and center but rather a perfectly balanced equation between human and demon.
The man in front of me was an absolute marvel of strength and beauty, and for a brief second, I couldn’t think of anything except how much I wanted to taste his markings.
"Later," promised Dimitri as he smirked at me from over his shoulder. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought he was reading my mind, but chances were he could just feel my eyes trailing over his body. "Yous let me deal with dese people and I be showin’ you just what I can offer ma reine."
