Chapter 234: You Made Your Bed
"That isn’t the building you described," announced Adam as he cocked his head to the side.
The army was on the other side of a hill, keeping the landmass between them and the... house in front of them. It was big enough that it could hide them from anyone watching from the house, and they needed to regroup.
"That wasn’t there when we left," murmured Sophia as she looked worriedly at Bishop. "Could this just be part of an illusion? She is a spirit user, after all. It would make some sense if she could make us see things that weren’t there."
"That’s a lot of energy for a little girl," replied Eve with a shake of her head. "Why would she be willing to make herself vulnerable like that?"
"To stop anyone from trying to get inside," grunted Bishop with a nod. There was no way Hattie had enough power to keep the illusion forever, and if she was trying to play dress up as the Devil, then it would make sense if she wanted the outside to be scarier than before. "I mean, it looks scary if you didn’t know it was nothing more than an illusion."
"Are you sure that we are even in the right place" asked Eve as she took a pair of binoculars from Adam and looked through them. The exterior of the house was black and looked like something out of a horror movie rather than reality. The exterior windows were all broken, and the storm shutters were hanging on by a single screw and a prayer.
"It’s the right place," nodded Bishop. "I have lived there too long not to know my way home."
"And the moat?" asked Adam, bored, as he took the binoculars back from Eve. "Was that always there? Or is that a new addition?"
"Moat?" gasped Sophia as she stuck her head over the top to see better. Bishop, however, quickly pulled her back down so as not to give away their location.
