Chapter 139: You Can Have Him
Tank rotated his head from side to side as he tried to work out the knot that had been there since his little Lamb had disappeared. He stared at the abandoned mall and the fires that were lit throughout the hallways.
Even from this distance, he could see the over a hundred people huddling around the small fires, trying to get warm as they scrapped together all the food they had.
He assumed that at one point in time, a scene like this would have made him feel pity, but right now, he just felt nothing. Odds were good that someone in this compound wouldn’t hesitate to kill his little Lamb for an extra helping at dinner.
And that was a chance he just wasn’t willing to take.
Looking up at the sky, he watched as the sun slowly sunk over the horizon. The sounds of zombies coming out to play was like music to his ears. He learned quickly that they avoided him like the plague... if zombies could get the plague, and he used that to herd them in the direction he wanted them to go.
What used to take twenty or more men now only took him.
However, in this case, the zombies were already interested in the poor humans inside the mall. Their stench stretched so far that it wasn’t a surprise that they managed to attract an entire horde. Too bad they were just the stupid ones.
He had yet to see the smart ones after that first time.
Coming to his feet, Tank slipped in behind the horde, the few stragglers looking over their shoulders in fear as they spotted him. His presence seemed to have made them go faster toward the mall.
Whether it was to get to their food or get away from him, it didn’t really matter. The ending would be the same.
Hanging back, Tank leaned against one of the burnt-out cars in the parking lot as the zombies tried their best to rush forward, their legs stumbling over themselves as their moans became louder.
Crossing his arms in front of him, he couldn’t contain the smile as he heard the screams and pleas of the people in the mall as the zombies broke through the flimsy barrier of debris.
