Chapter 884: Panic Is Like a Giant Beast
Although Huo Yanzhao always told her that Jingyao still kept in touch with him, Zhixi could detect a trace of worry in his tone.
This prevented her from feeling optimistic.
Not to mention, altogether, it had already been a full month.
She hadn’t seen him for a month.
As time went by, the atmosphere in the old house once again became heavy.
Every time He Yirong and Liu Minjun looked at Zhixi, their gazes carried an indescribable sadness and caution.
But Zhixi appeared to be as calm as usual, and as the months went by, her appetite even grew.
This provided a slight relief to the couple.
What they didn’t know was that Zhixi had begun to suffer from insomnia night after night, her heart racing. She often woke up abruptly midway through sleep, frightened to sleep again, because once she fell asleep, nightmares would begin.
Panic was like a giant beast, devouring an enormous rift within her heart.
Once when she woke up startled, perhaps because she cried out, the sleeping Xiaobao beside her was also awakened.
"Mom," he struggled to sit up, "What’s wrong? Are you uncomfortable? I’ll go get grandma."
Ever since Xiaobao started sleeping with Zhixi, he had taken on a significant mission, which was to run for help whenever Zhixi felt unwell.
The little guy steadfastly remembered his duty.
"Mom is fine," Zhixi forced a smile, "Lie down and go to sleep."
"Mom, are you really okay?" He cautiously scooted closer and nestled into her neck.
"Yes," Zhixi smiled a little.
Xiaobao’s soft breath enveloped her, making her feel a bit more settled inside.
"Okay, mom, if you ever feel unwell, make sure to wake me up..." As he spoke, his voice gradually softened until it was barely audible.
Zhixi chuckled, patting his soft body, and soon Xiaobao’s rhythmic snoring reached her ears.
Listening to her son’s snores, it wasn’t until the sky was almost light that she finally closed her eyes and fell asleep.
...
The next day, Zhixi needed to go to the hospital for a prenatal check-up.
When she was leaving, Liu Minjun glanced at her pale face, wanting to say something but swallowed the words.
She certainly understood why Zhixi was not feeling well mentally. At this stage, comforting words were no longer of any use.
She could only pray that Jingyao would return soon.
Fortunately, the results of the check-up showed everything was normal.
No matter how worried Zhixi was inside, she was striving to adjust herself, making efforts to eat and rest to minimize the impact on the baby. Thinking of this, Liu Minjun felt both sadness and heartache.
After the check-up, Liu Minjun put away all negative emotions and, with a smile, held Zhixi’s hand.
"Let’s go back," Liu Minjun smiled and said, "Next time we come for a check-up, we’ll be able to know the baby’s gender."
Zhixi also tried hard to squeeze out a smile, "Yes."
They left the hospital, walking towards the parking lot.
Li Bo opened the car door for them; Liu Minjun first helped Zhixi into the car, then closed the door, intending to go around to the other side and get in.
However, when she reached the other side, she found the car door wouldn’t open.
"Old Qin, the car door is locked," she told the driver.
Just then, the car suddenly started unexpectedly, Liu Minjun’s hand was still on the handle, and she was almost swept to the ground as the car abruptly moved!
"Old Qin! What are you doing! Stop!" Liu Minjun shouted loudly.
