Dealing with the people outside didn’t require guns, but to handle the person inside the car, they had to use one. Without a gun, they could not force the car to stop.

Gao Yi held a metal pipe; he wasn’t well-positioned to intercept the car, but Emily, with a gun, had no such difficulty. So, when she spotted a car emerging from the parking lot, she very adeptly drew her weapon, gesturing with one hand to stop while pointing the gun at the passenger seat with the other.

There was a problem.

In the UK, cars have the steering wheel on the right side, whereas in France, it’s on the left.

Thus, instinctively, most drivers of left-hand drive vehicles would assume the right side was the passenger seat. But when Emily fired her warning shot, it was anything but a warning— she shot at the driver’s seat.

With the gunshot, the first to be fired since the incident at the doors of the Military Intelligence Sixth Department, it was unclear whether the bullet hit anyone after piercing the glass. Nonetheless, the driver slammed on the brakes hard.

Any rational person would not stop under these circumstances. The correct choice would be to accelerate and break through, but Emily’s shot was so accurate that it instinctively forced the driver to stomp on the brakes.

Emily’s gun still aimed at the driver, Gao Yi quickly moved around to the door, pulling at it. The doors were locked.

The barrel of Emily’s gun shifted slightly, and the driver hit the unlock button. That allowed Gao Yi to successfully open the door.

The driver was a skinny man in his fifties, who seemed composed, but his hands on the steering wheel were slightly shaking. Upon closer inspection, Gao Yi noticed something odd about the hair on top of the driver’s head.
