Chapter 1767 - 948: Shattered Bones
A force of two hundred thousand troops cannot possibly operate in an orderly manner without any chaos. Thus, everyone here strictly abides by the regulations, following orders from above each day.
Anyone who violates military rules and discipline faces punishment, ranging from mild corporal punishment to severe military law disposal.
This camp is filled with coldness, operating like machinery, devoid of any human touch. Lin Feng reflects on leading troops in Peace City.
Back then, there were at most only twenty to thirty thousand men, nothing of this massive scale.
The scale here is not only vast but also operates neatly, wherever Lin Feng goes, the military might is overwhelmingly powerful.
"It seems the army is governed well here," Lin Feng muses to Hua Shengmi.
Hua Shengmi senses Lin Feng’s inner turmoil, understanding his thoughts. Lin Feng merely feels unsuited to lead an army, not because he is unable, but because he dislikes the cold sternness, turning people into mere war machines, witnessing his men die in battle daily. Cultivators are not fond of pursuing such things; they should be far away from worldly strife and bloodshed.
Before long, Lin Feng and the others arrived outside a training field. Here, the gate is composed of large wooden stakes, also serving as walls around the perimeter.
The stakes sharpened at the top exude an aura of grandeur, embodying the field’s severity and authority.
The gatekeepers saw Mo Qingshuang leading, directly approaching to greet him.
The newcomer put hands together in salute, not raising his head even after the gesture, saying to Mo Qingshuang, "I have been waiting for the General’s arrival here, everything is ready, just awaiting the General’s orders."
The accompanying man heard it all clearly, not missing a word. He thinks the Western Army might have new movements, his brows furrowed, looking thoughtful.
Lin Feng’s discerning mind immediately notices this scene, pondering why the man looks worried, yet seemingly not indicating a change in circumstances.
After finishing the conversation with Mo Qingshuang, the newcomer walked into the training field. By then, its gate was open, Lin Feng with five alliance members followed, watching the scene ahead somewhat speechless.
The spectacle was astonishing, for there were tens of thousands of warriors inside the field fully armed, seemingly ready for a massive undertaking. Lin Feng was surprised, suddenly wondering: "What is this about, are they setting out for battle somewhere?"
Despite being full of doubt, Lin Feng reveals nothing outwardly, remaining calm as he follows them.
Lin Feng and five others followed the General onto the platform in the field. The General then addressed the tens of thousands of warriors gathered below: "The Heaven Alliance forces are just beyond a hundred miles, today we shall attack and annihilate them completely."
On the platform, members of Wu Ming Heaven Alliance were tied up, meant to be beheaded before the massive army to enforce military authority.
According to the Princess’s plan, their sacrifice was necessary to save the remaining twenty people. These are the core members of the Heaven Alliance, crucial to the upcoming situation.
The five alliance members accompanying Lin Feng raised their large knives, ready to execute the five kneeling on the platform.
With the executioner’s command, the five alliance members swiftly brought their knives down, beheading the five on the platform.
A spray of blood ensued, five heads were severed. Lin Feng was startled, yet having promised the contact to follow the plan, he clenched his fists, angrily watching the harrowing scene unfold before him.
Afterward, the General told Lin Feng and the six executioners: "Go and escort the twenty people detained in the warehouse up the hill for execution, to assert our military might!"
Upon hearing Mo Qingshuang’s order, the leading man acknowledged with a "Yes."
He then gestured to Lin Feng and the others, as the executioner joined them heading toward the warehouse in the Western Army camp.
Lin Feng and the rest paid no further attention to Mo Qingshuang. The scene now shifts to heading towards the warehouses detaining alliance members.
Lin Feng quietly followed, walking at the center of the group as they went towards the warehouses, the distant training field and its deafening shouts gradually growing quieter.
They arrived at a somewhat dilapidated building, where prohibitions were set up to prevent those inside from escaping. The guards wielded war spears, clad in impressive armor, each one very mighty.
"Open the door for me," the executioner commanded the guards.
The guards did not initially comply but after seeing the General’s token, they cooperated. The prohibition on the door was lifted with a key, slowly opening wide.
Inside were twenty alliance members locked within iron bars. The leading man approached the bars without hesitation, unlocking the cell with a key.
The cell was once guarded by a red light curtain, which naturally dissipated upon contact with the key.
