Chapter 74: Is it really just the wine...?
«D-Deputy Director Kendrow, I don’t want to sound rude but... I think... I think you’re going a little overboard with the wine...» Hakuto mutters, his voice painfully embarrassed.
The private flight that was supposed to take them to Ashiya is scheduled to last thirteen hours.
But not even three hours after takeoff, Alexia Kendrow—the Deputy Director of HESPARC U.S.—is already completely drunk.
She just finished her second bottle of wine.
As if that wasn’t enough, she even offered some to Hakuto—a minor.
That gesture left him utterly baffled, completely at odds with the stern, authoritarian image he had built of her over the past three months.
«Having to always act strict, serious, and unyielding is exhausting, you know? But I have no choice—it comes with the job. That’s why I want to enjoy these few hours of solitude and just let loose a little, unwind before the important meeting with the Deputy Director of HESPARC Japan,» she explained right after Hakuto saw her pull out a bottle of red wine.
«You don’t need to explain yourself to me, especially for something so normal. There’s nothing wrong with having a glass of wine to relax,» Hakuto replied.
But it didn’t take long for him to realize she meant one glass every five minutes.
«I-I told you... hic... I told you to call me Alexia! And besides... I might not look like it, but I’m a really strong Monster Reaper, you know? hic... it takes way more than wine to knock me out!» she snaps, her nose and cheeks flushed from the alcohol, hiccupping every few words.
She’s sprawled—no, completely slumped without a shred of grace—on a leather sofa in a small lounge aboard the private jet. Hakuto sits properly across from her, a glass table separating them, littered with bottles and glasses.
