«Oh, almost forgot. I got married. Again.»
It's dinner time when Hakuto Tendo hears those words from his dad—Shin—spoken so casually he nearly falls out of his chair.
He's not even sure if he should be mad, shocked... or just tired.
That man's had more wives than birthday candles.
Hakuto is sixteen. Brown hair. Brown eyes. Pretty ordinary, but not bad-looking.
His dad looks like an older, scruffier version of him—thirty years down the line.
Grizzled hair, messy beard.
A cigarette always between his lips.
For as long as he can remember, Hakuto has never seen his dad without a cigarette.
Their shoebox apartment, buried deep in the crumbling alleys of Sanya, is a smoke-stained mess.
The walls used to be white. Now they're puke yellow.
