Chapter 6: Evolution Trigger **
When the memories streams ended, he realized he hadn’t just watched them as one would watch a movie, he had lived them. They felt as real to him as the life he had lived as ’Kevin’ felt real to him. Realer even considering this body still existed and his body as Kevin had been turned to nothing.
He heard the snap of fingers and suddenly his hand was back on Arlette’s waist with the other hand lightly holding her arm. His canines were fangs sunk into her neck with his mouth a seal over it to keep the blood from spilling so it went into his mouth and directly down his throat.
Speaking of the blood, it was moving again and so did Arlette who groaned and continued to grip the edge of her desk.
Time had resumed as if the conversation with Samantha had never happened.
"Caius," Arlette said in a low breathy voice.
The name no longer sounded strange and his brain reacted to it like anyone would react to hearing their name called. That was who he was now; He was Caius Von Helsing.
And as Caius Von Helsing, there was so much he now understood that had never been outright written in the original story of [To Kill A Demon Lord...]. The most immediate example of this was his knowledge of his ’Evolution Trigger’.
’Evolution Triggers’ are emotions such as Sadness, Happiness, Anger, and even Fear that Vampires must elicit in their victims, and by feeding on that Emotionally charged blood, they can evolve their Vampiric Bloodline.
If a Vampire’s Evolution Trigger is Fear, then its victims must feel fear before it feeds on them unless it’ll only be feeding to satisfy its thirst and not to evolve. If it’s happiness, the process is the same and so is the case for every other emotion.
A Vampire only has one Evolution Trigger i.e. one emotion that it must incite in its victims for evolution and they always know it instinctively. It’s not taught or mastered, it’s just naturally understood.
And now that he had all the memories, Caius finally understood what was never said in the original story; His Evolution trigger was ’Arousal’.
