Chapter 46: Ruins Site
The stone corridor breathed.
Not with air, but with memory—etched into every wall, every fractured glyph that shimmered faintly beneath the moss-veined surface. Fade’s boots echoed against the cracked floor as he stepped inside the forgotten ruins, the threshold behind him swallowed by curling roots and silence.
There was no turning back. Not because the path had sealed—though it nearly had—but because something within him had already passed a point of no return.
He paused.
The air was warm. Not just warm—loaded. Like it had weight, density, intention.
Chemosense flared subtly. At first it felt like static in the brain—then it resolved into sensations: sulfur, decay, the metallic sharpness of old blood... and something older still. Something almost elemental.

Fade frowned, eyes narrowing. "The air’s fractured," he muttered. "Even time’s breath doesn’t move straight here."
He moved forward, touching one of the cracked wall-plates. Glyphs pulsed dimly beneath his fingers, as if recognizing contact but refusing to translate. A faint hum ran beneath the stone, like a heart trapped too deep to scream.
His fingers twitched.
