Mia’s hand gripped the doorknob. She felt an urge to go to Kevin and tell him she liked him too, asking him to stay the night with her. But only for one night. Tomorrow, they would forget everything and return to being teacher and student.
However, Mia couldn’t bring herself to open the door, her face showing a struggle. Finally, she let go of the handle, leaning weakly against the door. The idea was too crazy, too naive. She thought, if he had the guts to knock, it would be a sign, and she wouldn’t resist. She’d open the door and agree to whatever he wanted.
But Kevin didn’t knock. Instead, he said softly, "Ms. Wilson, I finished the reciting you asked for, a hundred times. I didn’t slack off. I always keep my promises. I’m heading home now. Goodbye. And, Ms. Wilson. I love you. I always will."
With that, he turned and left. Behind the door, Mia felt a pang of loss, but soon a sweet smile spread across her face, warmth filling her heart. "Kevin, I love you too, truly."
Midterm Rewards
