Chapter 173
Seeing Kevin agree, Mike Adams grinned and threw an arm around Kevin’s shoulder. "That’s more like it, buddy. You don’t know how much my mom thinks of you as a second son. She’s always asking about you and wondering if you have a girlfriend at school. It’s like she’s forgotten about her real son."
Despite his words, Mike didn’t feel any resentment. In fact, he saw it as a good thing. His dad was often away, and Evelyn Allen, with nothing to do, focused all her attention on Mike, which put a lot of pressure on him. Now, with Kevin around, his mom could divert some of her attention, giving Mike a break. Little did he know he was inadvertently helping create opportunities for his mom and Kevin to hook up.
Kevin said, "No way. Maybe she’s just bored at home. You should chat with her more often."
Hearing Mike’s words, Kevin felt even more guilty. Although he secretly hooked up with Evelyn Allen, he didn’t want her to pay too much attention to him, fearing it might make Mike feel neglected.
"Forget it. My mom watches TV all day and she’s just a housewife. She can’t even use a computer. I’d rather play games."
Mike pouted, then his eyes lit up with a mischievous smile. "How about this? You come over on weekends to chat with my mom. I won’t make you do it for free. You’ve been eyeing my Nintendo for a while, right? Make my mom happy, and it’s yours."
"Get out of here. You’re dreaming if you think I’ll do that." Kevin laughed, but he was a bit tempted. Mike’s game console was the latest model, worth over a thousand dollars, and brought from the South by Mike’s dad. Plus, it would give him a legitimate reason to be alone with Evelyn without raising Mike’s suspicions.
"What’s wrong with that? You should feel happy about it."
Mike pouted again and said, "My mom is beautiful and has a great figure. It isn’t hard to find someone who would like to chat with her, but I don’t trust anyone else. I don’t want to invite trouble."
