Chapter 104: A Miracle
A few hours later
King Gray stirred in his sleep, the surrounding giggles and noise irritating his ears.
"Will you guys keep it down; I’m trying to sleep here." He muttered under his breath, but the noise kept on going. "Hah..."
He wasn’t able to make out the words either, but he knew the noise came from his family. Left with no option, he decided to sleep through the noise. However, he began to wonder how he ended up in bed.
Then, memories of previous events began playing in his head. He vividly recalled crippling himself to avoid making the hard choice.
But the noise around him made him aware that the incident was solved; someone had saved the day in his stead. There couldn’t have been a better outcome.
But knowing this didn’t make him feel good as a sudden wave of shame and inadequacy hit him out of nowhere. He chose the coward’s way out.
He, a king and a father, chose not to see what happened next.
If only he had been stronger, faster or even killed that bastard before it got to that point. Unfortunately, regret never reels its head until the tragedy actually happens.
’I can’t even open my eyes to look at them.’ A single tear fell from the corner of his eye. ’Crippling myself is a befitting punishment for my cowardice.
’Stepping down as king would be for the best. I can’t continue sitting on the throne like this.’
