Penny and Professor Singh headed to the private lab where he conducted his research. Although there was a larger, fully equipped research facility available, the university had provided the professor with his own lab so he could continue his work while remaining available for lectures.
"Penelope, what is this drug again?" Professor Singh asked, furrowing his thick, white-streaked brows.
Penny, loitering a few steps away, nodded. "It’s the same lethal drug I told you about. My friend, who was investigating it, asked me to look into it. Their experts are having a hard time analyzing its properties."
"What are its effects, Penny?"
"Basically, once ingested, the victim experiences symptoms similar to a heart attack. The only difference is that this drug is even more lethal. It forces the person into a coma, and once the heart stops, they die. The problem is, once the heart stops beating, the drug becomes undetectable."
"..." Professor Singh’s heart skipped a beat. "That..."
"It’s classified as a weapon of mass destruction," she clarified. "I’m just really concerned about its properties."
Silence fell between them as their eyes met.
Professor Singh understood her concern. The drug’s characteristics were alarmingly similar to the one Penny had been working on for years — the Miracle Drug.
"And it’s being sold on the black market?" he asked, removing his glasses and resting them on his head.
Penny nodded. "For a high price, yes."
