Chapter 1453: Parent in action
"Dad... I swear it’s not me." Penny frowned deeply, placing her hands together as if in prayer. "My brothers are just looking for a fall guy."
Penny might’ve dodged her brothers the entire day, but in the end, she still had to come home. And the moment she arrived, they were already there—with Charles and Allison. Haines was also present, and everyone knew why.
"Penny." Allison stepped forward, blocking Penny so her husband wouldn’t be swayed. "If not you, then who?"
Penny pursed her lips. "It was Renren who fed them the soup."
"That’s true." Zoren, who had somehow ended up siding with her brothers, nodded. He looked at his wife apologetically. "I didn’t know it was that soup. I’m sorry."
"We all know Zoren fed us the soup, but why was it even there in the first place?!" Slater yelled, while Atlas and Hugo nodded in agreement.
"You must’ve secretly told the chef to serve it to your husband," Atlas accused, and Hugo backed him up, adding, "Penny, if you’re not guilty, why did you avoid us all day?"
Penny sighed heavily and lowered her gaze. With their parents here to discipline her, she could only bite her tongue and puff her cheeks. Peeking up, she tried to get her father’s attention, but Allison tilted her head to block her view.
"Penny, don’t think your father is going to save you this time," Allison’s voice was soft, yet firm.
’I’m sorry, my princess!’ Charles mentally wept, feeling helpless. If it were up to him, he’d blame his sons for not knowing better. Penny was innocent! Without a doubt! But then again... his wife—his kryptonite—was here.
"It’s not like I was the one who wanted that soup here in the first place!" Penny yelled, glaring at her brothers.
"Then who else put it here, Penny?" Haines finally broke his silence.
