Chapter 1404: Newfound admiration and appreciation for the boss (?)
Meanwhile...
Shawn listened to the metal clanking as he stood beside the entrance of the small jail cell he had been thrown into. As soon as the door opened, the officer stepped aside to let him pass. Shawn lowered his head as he stepped out, facing Yugi, who was standing on the other side.
"Thank you," Shawn muttered under his breath, unable to meet Yugi’s eyes. "And I’m sorry for bothering you."
Yugi smirked and gave Shawn a reassuring tap on the shoulder. "It’s alright. I hope you’re okay."
At that, Shawn finally lifted his gaze and met Yugi’s eyes. He was taller than Yugi, but right now, he felt like breaking down. This was the first time in his life he had been thrown into jail, and he wasn’t even sure why. All he knew was that he had gotten caught up in this mess because of a ring.
Teddy and Hayley sighed in relief as Shawn was finally out. However, they knew their relief was incomplete. They exchanged glances before turning to Yugi.
"Sir," Teddy called, making Yugi raise a brow at him. "Thank you for helping us, and I apologize that we couldn’t do anything without your intervention."
Hayley frowned slightly. "But, sir... Miss Miller was also arrested. We’re not sure where she is since Shawn said they were separated when they arrived."
"Please help her as well," Teddy added quietly, swallowing his pride. He had realized by now that only Yugi had the influence to make that happen.
Earlier, when they saw Yugi enter the station, they had assumed he was just passing by. But after he disappeared deeper inside, they had taken it upon themselves to try and bail Shawn out. Unfortunately, the officers kept delaying the process, claiming they needed to complete more paperwork.
It wasn’t until Yugi returned that things moved forward. Hayley and Teddy had nearly resorted to begging the officers, but the moment Yugi intervened, they suddenly allowed Shawn’s release. That was when Teddy realized something unsettling—no matter how reasonable their arguments were, in this station, power and influence mattered more than justice.
Besides, both he and Hayley already suspected that Patricia’s arrest had been planned from the start.
