Chapter 999: Break free from the shackles of his mind.
Allison held her daughter as tightly and steadily as she could, hoping this would at least keep Penny together temporarily. They hadn’t heard anything from the group of medical professionals, but Penny was a medical professional herself. Even if Penny weren’t, what Allison had witnessed was concerning.
No one would just cough up blood the way Zoren had.
Penny clasped Allison’s back, her face crumpling. As she kept her gaze on the bed, Allison noticed the people at the door. Lifting her eyes, Allison almost broke down the moment she locked eyes with Charles’s dilated pupils.
Charles studied his wife’s expression briefly before shifting his eyes to his daughter’s back. Seeing Penny’s side profile was enough for him to understand why Allison was trying to keep it together, despite looking like she would also break down.
With Charles now there, he was able to take his daughter and wife out of there.

The family stood in the mezzanine in silence, with Charles holding on to the railing, eyes on the first floor. Haines was leaning next to him, his eyes on Penny. As for Penny, she was leaning against the wall, her arms crossed, eyes cast down. The rest were scattered, but still around the same area.
’What happened?’was everyone’s question, but with Penny in this state, how could they ask?
Atlas, who was casually seated in the wing chair in the corner, kept his naturally sharp eyes on his sister. There wasn’t much change compared to his usual expression, but his gaze never left her. It was the same for Hugo and Slater.
Slater pressed his lips tightly, unable to hide them quivering. A thin layer of tears coated his eyes, and he wiped them with his arm, as he wasn’t used to seeing Penny in such a state. He would rather have her purposely ignoring him or telling him a bunch of nonsense than to see her like this.
