"Even if it’s fake, I knew you were incapable of shedding tears, which makes me wonder... how much of what you told her was truth and how much of it was lies?"

Finn chuckled at the thought. "Surprisingly, none of what I told her is fake."
"Oh?" A look of surprise washed over Jonathan’s face, expecting Finn to deny everything. "I didn’t expect you to be so honest, Finn. At least, I expected a pathetic denial."
"You know me just as much as I know you. There’s no reason for me to deny it."
Slowly, Jonathan’s subtle smile stretched into a devious one. "Even in this state, you impress me."
"Impressing you was never a goal. There’s no one I’d like to impress other than Zoren Pierson, but sure."
"Haha." Jonathan’s smile slightly faded, his eyes sharpening. "Finn Davis, I’m curious. Have you always... desired Nina, even when she was my wife?"
This time, Finn didn’t answer because the answer was obvious.
In their past life, Finn had to admit he could not love someone like he did now. He felt a bit sorry for Nina, but what she got from her marriage to Jonathan was something she had already seen coming. After all, compared to now, Nina had been far more ambitious and terrifyingly selfish in the past.
"Penny changed her," Finn breathed out. "Penny changed everyone around her."
"Does that apply to you?"
