Chapter 295: Were they expecting?
Penny ate with grace, never forgetting her table manners. At the same time, she ate happily. She had been outside, running here and there, with some additional stress from Benjamin and Zoren, leaving a large space to fill in her stomach.
Even so, Penny didn’t serve herself much. She could always eat more once she got home. With that thought in mind, Penny ate her food slowly, savoring the taste. While Old Mrs. Pierson was talking, Penny continued to eat steadily. Before she knew it, her plate was almost empty.
’That’s enough, Penny. It’s okay. You can eat more later,’ she told herself, and then she slowly cut smaller pieces just to enjoy it a little longer.
"During my time, I also had to deal with troubled men..." Old Mrs. Pierson continued her story, barely touching her food. It was obvious she was enjoying talking to Penny more than eating. "But back then, men weren’t as open as they are nowadays..."
Penny smiled subtly, feeling a little disheartened as she glanced at the tiny piece of meat on her fork. She wanted it to be ten times bigger, but she didn’t want to embarrass herself.
"Hehe... yes, Grandma," she replied, keeping herself engaged in the conversation.
Zoren, on the other hand, raised his brows while observing Penny’s movements. Since their seats were right beside each other, he could see how her pace had slowed compared to a few minutes ago, and how her plate was almost empty.
Suddenly, he got a whiff of the strong gloominess coming from her.
’Does she want more?’ he wondered.
He fluttered his eyelashes and quietly drew a spare plate closer. He didn’t think much about what dish she might want and simply took the closest one to him. After slicing the meat and filling the plate, he cast Penny a quick glance.
