"Daddy!" Katherine’s head whipped to the new sound, and she dropped the fruit tray in her hand on the table.
Jasmine and Hanith ran in, tears and mucus streaming down their faces as they jumped on Aaron. Aaron winced a little from the impact but still picked them up.
"My little pumpkins," he said softly, looking at their faces and feeling his heart pull from seeing their disheveled faces.
"Ah!" Jasmine cried as Hanith clung his arm around Aaron’s neck while burying his head on Aaron’s jugular.
"Y—you," Jasmine heaved, and Aaron smiled a little, pulled her face gently, and used a napkin on her nose.
"Blow, little princess," he said, and Jasmine did so.
After a little reunion, he dropped the children down gently and flexed his cramped arm.
"Are you really okay, Daddy?" Hanith said softly, holding Aaron’s hand.
Aaron stared at Hanith’s red face. Though the boy was a quiet kid in nature, he felt more emotions than his sister, and Aaron ruffled his hair, raised his elbow. "Daddy’s strong." He flexed his muscles, and Jasmine giggled while Hanith looked at him quietly.
Aaron pulled both of them into a hug as Katherine looked from the children to Aaron, and her heart skipped. Her family was complete now. Then she wrapped her arms around them.
"Thank you for coming back to us," Katherine mumbled against Aaron’s head, then dropped a kiss on his forehead.
