Chapter 71: Drugged me?
Chapter 71
Aaron returned to the living room with a deep scowl settled across his face, his jaw tight from the conversation he just had with his mother. He didn’t need his mother pestering him about claiming the kids and filing a lawsuit. Lawsuit for what?
He didn’t want to argue or be angry this night—not when Katherine’s scent still lingered faintly in the house—and he couldn’t wait to throw Amanda out for stretching the air with her perfume.
Aaron slumped into the sofa, rubbing the bridge of his nose before reaching for the glass of wine he left earlier. Wanting to finish the drinking excuse quickly, he gulped down the wine, barely noticing the taste nor the look on Amanda’s face. He just needed the drink to wash out the irritation brimming in him.
"Thanks for the drink," Amanda said smoothly from her seat, her tone light to keep her voice from giving away her happiness. She shifted slightly, crossing her legs and tilting her head toward him. "Well, our contract marriage is coming to an end." She raised her cup. "Cheers to a smooth ending."
Aaron didn’t respond as he felt heat building in his chest and he swallowed, his throat feeling parched. And suddenly he was feeling a buzzing under his skin. His fingers twitched, and his head began to feel foggy, his eyes hazy.
He blinked and reached up to rub his temples, his breathing slightly more labored. His shirt suddenly felt too tight, sweat trickling down his face.
"Something’s off..." he muttered, voice thick and low as the glass slipped from his hand and hit the ground with a soft thud.
Amanda simply watched him with a quiet satisfaction glimmering in her eyes. Her lips curled into a smile as she slowly stood, her hips swaying deliberately as she approached the sofa.
She sat beside him, body angled toward his as her hand brushed his arm sensually. "Relax, Aaron," she cooed.
His gaze narrowed, sluggish but deep with hatred, as he turned his head slightly, his brows drawing together in a haze of anger and confusion. "What did you do?"
