Chapter 62: Promises
Chapter 62
In a storming memory.
The June rain tapped the windows softly, wind howling against the edges of the roof gently, and thunder rolled low, distant yet soothing—something that could lure people into eternal sleep.
The cottage wasn’t big, but it was their hideaway, their solace from people, tucked away from their busy noses and monitoring eyes. The cottage was their solace, just the two of them to be with themselves.
Aaron had texted Katherine earlier to meet at their hideout — I’m waiting for you at the cottage. I want to play the new piece I composed.
The text was simple and direct, which made Katherine smile when she received the message in class. She couldn’t wait to be with him and listen to his new masterpiece.
Aaron only played piano whenever he was free, and Katherine was the source of his inspiration—though his mother wanted him to branch into music professionally, he didn’t like it as a profession.
Katherine opened the private cottage door, drenched from the rain — she didn’t wait for the rain to stop before she ran off, not waiting for her friend because Aaron was waiting for her.
Her blouse clung to her body like a second skin, her backpack slightly tilted, and her hair soaked to her scalp. The rain was heavier than she had thought from the classroom window.
Her legs were slightly trembling from the cold, her boots squelching softly as she stepped inside, eyes searching for the familiar warmth of the wooden interior.
Her emerald gaze met his russet eyes.
