Chapter 27
Outside the event hall, parents and guardians were arriving to pick up their children or wards as Katherine walked out, holding the twins tightly while their bags slung beside her.
The school had organized a little art exhibition for the children, and Katherine had requested a leave today to be there for the kids.
Jasmine was chattering non-stop about what had happened inside, her eyes twinkling with happiness as she talked about the art display. Katherine and Hanith listened, nodding when necessary and smiling to engage her retelling.
When they reached outside, they saw Mathew already waiting for them, dressed in a black jacket and faded jeans. Katherine tilted her head in surprise—she hadn’t expected to see him there.
He walked over calmly, holding a folded paper. When he reached them, he bent a little to give the twins a caress, then handed the paper to Jasmine, smiling.
"You left this behind the other day," he said.
Jasmine squealed excitedly, quickly collecting the paper from him. "It’s the one I made for Hanith!" she pouted, opening the drawing she had made.
Katherine smiled. "Thanks, Mathew. She was really upset about not being able to display it today," she said, remembering Jasmine’s crestfallen face earlier in the hall. Katherine had to promise her something else to cheer her up.
"Oops, sorry, chump," he said apologetically. "I should have brought it sooner," he muttered, ruffling her head.
"It’s okay, Uncle Matty," she waved her hand dismissively. "Thank you for bringing it," Jasmine grinned cheekily, hugging the paper.
