"Do you have feelings for me?"
Those last words coming from Enzo resounded in Lanny’s ears. She wasn’t ready for that direct confrontation. In the first place, she wasn’t the type of person who wanted to commit to a serious relationship.
Not hearing any response from Lanny, Enzo stepped forward, closing the gaps between them. He grabbed her shoulders and asked her once again.
"Do you love me, Lanny?"
At that certain moment, Lanny felt alarmed. She wasn’t comfortable answering the question truthfully, so instead, she brushed it off with a lighthearted laugh.
"Hey, Enzo, stop this. You are overthinking. We’ve slept several times in the past. Don’t give deeper meaning to this. Okay? I’m just here to comfort you and help you forget about Alice. I want to cheer you up."
Enzo was taken aback after hearing her words. Disbelief could be seen in his eyes. He didn’t expect her to say those words. He thought their intimate moment had a deeper meaning for Lanny. He had to admit that he got hurt by her bluntness.
"Does that mean... you feel nothing? Not even a little?" Enzo’s voice was heavy with disappointment.
Lanny could only nod, her gaze shifting away. She couldn’t bring herself to look him in the eyes, the weight of guilt pressing down on her.
"Yes. I feel nothing. You are my friend... I did it because you are my friend."
