Madeline almost got a heart attack when the butler mentioned Henry Grant.
She didn’t know him personally, but she heard news about him from years ago. He was a great businessman who could turn everything he touched into gold.
He kept his family a secret, but the Grant family was quite known as one of those who controlled the media and politics with their money and influence.
’Crap, does this mean that I’ve been busted? How did he know about Lance and me? Did Lance tell his father about us?’ Madeline’s heart was full of distrust. But the one that disturbed her the most was:
’Does this mean he gives his blessing to Lance and me? Or is this a warning for me to stay in line?’
"Two of us will stay in this mansion to help with daily maintenance, Miss Rose," the old butler said.
"Is this an order from Master Henry Grant?" Madeline asked.
She hoped this wasn’t a direct order from Henry Grant because it would confirm her suspicion that Lance’s father was watching over her, perhaps because of her scandalous past.
"It is a direct order from the Old Master," the butler replied. "Please don’t make it difficult for us, Miss."
"But... this is Lance’s mansion. It’s all up to him, right?"
"Young Master wouldn’t think it’s a problem, Miss. Please don’t worry. We will not disturb your private life. We’re here because the Old Master told us to."
Madeline sighed.
