Chapter 153
Madeline returned to her house in the late evening. She was dazed the whole time in the car, thinking about everything they did in that mansion.
She chuckled as she knocked on the door, and Nathan opened it.
He frowned when he saw Madeline’s vacant but happy expression. "Did something happen, sis?" he asked.
"Oh—" Madeline snapped out of her daze and shook her head. "Nothing much. I just got back from the production set."
"Mhm, I’ve just finished cooking for dinner."
Madeline and Nathan ate the dinner that he prepared. She ate with relish, especially after a vigorous activity during the whole afternoon.
After she was done, she drank a coke while watching a random TV show with Nathan and asked, "What do you think about moving out?"
Nathan froze for a moment.
That question was so abrupt that it took a while for him to process his answer: "What’s wrong with our house? I think it’s good here, right?"
"Well, yes," Madeline sighed. "But you know I’m infamous right now, and if those people find our home, we won’t be able to live in peace. They will harass us. And I can’t just leave you here alone. You’re still fifteen."
"But this house is where we grew up. It has many memories of us, Maddy," Nathan murmured. He knew that her sister was just trying to protect him. But when facing the idea that he had to leave this place, Nathan’s heart felt heavy.
"I’m sorry, Nathan. It’s all my fault," Madeline said, gently patting her brother’s shoulder.
