Chapter 185: Wishes
Viviana waited for some time to let Gabriella compose herself.
"I did the right thing, didn’t I, Melanie?" Gabriella asked with her eyes puffy and red. "Please tell me that I was right to push him away..."
Viviana gulped. She didn’t know if she should be honest or if she should go with white lies. She didn’t know what could help Gabriella.
"Be honest," Gabriella grabbed her shoulder.
"Yes," Viviana said with a sigh.
Whatever the reason was, Gabriella is now known to many as the highest-paid escort. She’s known to almost all of Lionel’s associates that way.
Lionel cannot suddenly bring her in front of them and introduce her as his wife. He can. But then no one will respect neither Lionel nor Gabby.
Some will mock them right in front of their face, some will pretend that everything is normal but will talk behind their backs. And some deplorable men will still see Gabriella for who she was even after her marriage and trouble her. Lionel won’t accept that and that would cause him harm.
There is no situation that this will end up well. Right or wrong, marriage is a public institution and everyone’s comment will matter to some extent. Lionel might be fierce with his love and unwavering with his decision to marry her now. But the same Lionel might change his mind in the future and regret his decision. Their marriage would be hanging by a thread with one single hurtful word possibly causing irreparable damage.
His life would be much easier by marrying a young woman matching his status.
