Chapter 54: Trouble approaching.
"How is it possible that they’re still alive?" Cain muttered, biting his own finger in an attempt to calm himself.
His plan had everything to be perfect, yet everything was going wrong, and they still hadn’t managed to eliminate a single student.
What frustrated him the most was how the lower-ranked students had survived, even after he teleported them away from the main group. That should have been impossible, or at least, it was supposed to be.
But his problems were far from over. Not only had he completely failed in his mission to weaken, or perhaps even kill, Sophia, but he had also made little progress in his search for the sacred ark.
And fate seemed to insist on mocking him, even when he received news that should have been positive. One of the shadows had discovered one of the lost temples, but in an ironic twist of coincidence, Sophia’s group had found the place first.
Because of that, he judged that his only option was to engage in direct confrontation. He couldn’t allow any witnesses to survive.
His master was expected to return soon, and when she was around, everything would become so much easier.
The problem was that Cain wanted to have resolved all the issues before she came back. That way, she would be impressed with his results, and he would earn her trust.
But on the contrary, he would likely have to report a significant number of failures to her, and naturally, that enraged him.
He bit his fingers even harder as he thought about a solution. Someone as risk-averse as him had difficulty making definitive decisions in moments like this.
However, it was at that moment that Linda, the monster creator from the group, approached him, handing over a report that would change everything.
