Chapter 340: The Refuge
Lila led the group through the winding tunnels, her footsteps echoing off the stone walls. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decay, and Elara couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched.
As they walked, the group bombarded Lila with questions, but she remained tight-lipped, a small smile playing on her lips. "You’ll see," she said, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "We’re almost there."
The tunnel finally opened up into a large cavern, the ceiling lost in darkness. The group gasped as they took in the sight before them. The cavern was filled with a vast, underground city, its buildings and streets stretching out as far as the eye could see.
"What is this place?" Aria breathed, her eyes wide with wonder.
"This is the Refuge," Lila said, her voice filled with pride. "A hidden city, protected from the Shadow Realm’s influence. We’ve been hiding here, waiting for the right moment to strike."
Lyra’s eyes narrowed, her gaze sweeping over the city. "You’ve been planning this for a long time," she said, her voice neutral.
Lila nodded, her eyes serious. "Yes. We’ve been preparing for years, gathering allies and resources. But we need the Heart of the Abyss to make our plan work."
Elara’s mother stepped forward, her eyes locked on Lila’s. "What exactly is your plan?" she asked, her voice firm.
Lila took a deep breath, her eyes shining with determination. "We’re going to use the Heart of the Abyss to create a portal to the Shadow Realm’s stronghold. We can infiltrate their stronghold, and destroy the source of their power."
The group fell silent, weighing the risks and benefits of Lila’s plan. Elara’s heart pounded with excitement and fear. They were really going to do this.
