Chapter 60: Looking for Someone
Chun Xiangnuan felt that this woman was quite bold; decades later, people would no longer be so trusting. It wasn’t that human hearts had become corrupt, but rather that there were just too many swindlers. Yet, she still believed that there were more good people in the world than bad. People in this era were sincere, honest, and upright. She liked this kind of era, even though technology would advance rapidly in the future, it lacked the ease and simplicity of the present.
She supported the woman as they walked toward her own stall. Just then, Qin Xiangyang heard footsteps and hurried out from the inside, only to see his sister supporting a strange woman.
"Brother, come help."
Qin Xiangnuan urgently called for Qin Xiangyang. She was having a hard time holding the woman up; it seemed the woman hadn’t eaten for a long while and had no strength left in her body. The woman was nothing but skin and bones and almost squashed her into a pancake.
"Oh, coming, coming," Qin Xiangyang, without asking why, quickly followed his sister in assisting the woman inside.
Qin Xiangnuan took a bowl and washed it again, scooped a large bowl of preserved egg and lean pork congee, and brought it over, along with a wrapped egg pancake, placing it in front of the woman.
"Auntie, please eat."
"How can I accept this?" the woman said, genuinely embarrassed. Even though she was so hungry her stomach hurt, how could she just accept someone else’s offerings for no reason?
"It’s okay, Auntie. Go ahead and eat. If you don’t eat, the little brother in your belly will be hungry too."
