The next day, Iris agreed to see the baby, even though she was barely sleeping, she would wake up every hour and looked around her, as if she was looking for something, but also dreading to see it at the same time.
Cane would be there to comfort her every time she woke up, which meant, he didn’t have any rest too. Yet, he was being extremely patient with her anxiety throughout the night.
The next morning, if you could say so, since the sun still had not yet appeared in the sky and Iris started to wonder if they would eventually lose track in time, she woke up and felt horrible, her appearance also looked horrendous when she saw her reflection on the mirror.
"I look awful..." Iris said, as Cane braided her hair to meet with alpha Colter and the other. This small thing that he did for her had become their peaceful moment, which was a rare thing to have, seeing their situation right now.
"You look perfect, Iris," Cane said, as he gave her a kiss on her cheek and finished braiding her hair. There was no ornament to adorn her bride, but she was already beautiful in his eyes without any of those things.
"Is there... any news?" she asked in small voice.
"I will tell you right away if there is any news from the south." Cane helped her to stand up and took her hand. "Let’s go."
Iris leaned against him, she felt her steps were so heavy when in actuality, it was her heart. She wanted to curl herself on the bed and do nothing, until she got the news that everyone was safe, that Aliana, Joel, Celia and Haco were fine.
However, Cane was right, there was nothing they could do to help them there and here, they needed to do what they could.
"We can postpone this if you are still not feeling well." Cane caressed her cheek when they walked in the corridor. Despite that was what he said, but he could see the determination in her eyes. She was going to go through this no matter what and he was right about that.
Iris shook her head. "You said it, time is the essence." She didn’t want to waste her time. More people could die if she kept worrying something that she couldn’t control. At the very least, she understood what Cane meant when he said they must do whatever they could do and worrying about what they couldn’t control, later.
