Chapter 505: TAKING A BREAK
"Okay," Iris said in defeat, as she stared at Cane’s back. He returned shortly after he ordered someone to bring her food and medicine over, and sat down on the foot of the bed, away from her, this made Iris’ heart sink. "Cane, I am sorry..." She put away the blanket and approached him. "What should I do for you not to be mad at me again?"
Cane said nothing. His jaw clenched tightly, but his eyes were fixed on Iris. He looked like he wanted to go off on her again, but in the end, he sighed deeply and pulled Iris into a hug. He rested his head on her shoulder, as he cradled her again like he did last night.
"I am sorry, my emotions are all over the place," Cane said. He breathed against her skin, filling his lungs with her scent. He saw how many warriors had fallen because he didn’t expect Lady Cyan to pull such a scheme. He was blindsided and he felt he could do better. At the very least, he should have sensed it.
However, Cane was completely clueless. He didn’t expect this move from Lady Cyan at all. Not to mention for her to actually expose herself and openly kill a few crucial people like Alpha Dristan and Sir Elijah. She was so unpredictable.
He failed. His plans had been ruined and he had to start from scratch. Lady Cyan had not only blown away her own identity, but also all Cane had worked hard for. All his schemes, all his plans were useless now.
He needed to think of how to handle the situation quickly, or else, it would backfire on himself.
Watching all of his dead warriors, people who had been with him for decades, die made it even more real. That was the evidence of his failure, an undeniable proof of his incompetence.
He had done everything he could, but it was still not enough...
Consequently, when he found Iris passed out on the floor while no one noticed it until an hour later, where something gravely horrible could have happened, knowing how easy she was to fall sick, it pushed all the wrong buttons inside him.
