Chapter 1206: Doesn’t seem right
There were many explanations for why Florence raised her only daughter the way she did. However, Hera couldn’t have fathomed the sudden thought that came to her mind.
"Florence Oxley. Charlotte isn’t your daughter, is she?"
Florence’s furious face twitched and her neck turned taut at the sudden inquiry that came out of Hera’s lips.
"What nonsense are you talking about now?" Florence’s face darkened. "First, you accuse me of being a neglected mother, but now you’re telling me my child isn’t mine at all? Hah! You must be dreaming!"
Hera slowly raised her head while her eyes lowered. "Whose child is she?"
"Did you hear — ugh!" Florence winced as blood squirted out of her leg upon raising her voice. She was already panting and breaking out in sweats. Getting agitated wasn’t helping with her injury.
"Can’t you see what I am holding?!" Florence waved the device in her hand. "Do you know what this is, Hera? This device —"
"If she isn’t your child, then you have no reason to take her under your wing. However, you took care of her," Hera continued to mumble while squinting. "You could’ve maltreated her, but you didn’t. If anything, you — I mean, you order your people to take care of her well..."
"Won’t you drop it already?" the words that Florence spat out came through her gritted teeth. "I am telling you, Hera —"
"You don’t want her to live, but you can’t kill her as well..." Hera continued, ignoring her completely for the reason Florence was reacting more than the latter realized. "... that only means..."
Florence held her breath as her eyes dilated as if she was hoping Hera wouldn’t figure something out. Hera, on the other hand, studied Florence. Just looking at her was enough to confirm every assumption she uttered just now.
