Chapter 971: Not ready
"... because I would never have the heart to take away her life support even if she loathes me for it."
Another moment of silence dominated the room while their expressions turned gloomy. Except for Primo, who had no idea what Dominic was talking about for the most part, Dominic maintained a straight and solemn countenance.
’I’ve always thought my wife was easy to understand, but now I’ve understood her deeper,’ Dominic thought, moving his gaze to everyone around the room. ’These people... her people only cared for her. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration that she was the center of their world. I’m still unsure if this is the result of something she worked hard to make them as loyal as dogs, but what I’m sure of is that because of them... because of all of us... she never had the luxury to be selfish.’
It wasn’t like their loyalty was a bad thing, but in a way, it wasn’t entirely healthy.
They cared for Hera to the point that their lack of regard for their lives was concerning. Thus, in her twisted and wounded mind, she made herself believe that since they always thought of her, it was her role to put them in her priorities. It wasn’t like she was selfless, she just had to be one.
Perhaps it was also the reason she hadn’t done anything to Dragon in the past when the man betrayed her.
Dominic wasn’t sure, but if his theory was correct, he believed it was because she was glad Dragon thought of something for himself. Even if he betrayed her, he removed himself from her life to do something else for himself.
’She must be very disappointed to know what Dragon had been doing all along.’Another thought crossed Dominic’s mind, letting out a heavy sigh. ’Instead of pursuing something else, his goal was her.’
"If you understand my argument, then I guess that’s settled." Dominic cleared his throat, breaking the silence that had been reigning in the room. "Pushing me away right now isn’t needed anymore."
