Chapter 778: Breathtaking
As promised, Dragon stayed in Hera’s room, watching her as she slipped into sleep. Her routine made it easy for her to doze off, leaving Dragon settled in the chair beside her bed, his gaze fixated on her back.
[Frank, I’ve been wondering... we’re married, yet... why don’t we share the same room?]
Hera’s inquiry echoed in his mind, a consequence, he thought, of her erased memories. "Such foolish questions," he mused.
Had she not lost her memories, such queries would never arise. It was evident to him. Despite Dragon’s belief that she had transformed into an ignorant beauty, he couldn’t trust her entirely enough to share a bed. He had already ceased giving her the pills that kept her at bay. He couldn’t afford more risks.
"Hera," Dragon called softly, observing her rhythmic breathing. "Can you hear me?"
Silence lingered after his question, her breathing steady, a sign she was sound asleep.
"If you can, listen carefully." Leaning back, he shifted his gaze to the window. "If you’re feigning ignorance about everything, make sure you uphold the charade indefinitely. Don’t reveal it to me, or it will deeply hurt... you and me."
Dragon couldn’t confidently ascertain which version of her he preferred, but he was certain this one had the potential to inflict the deepest wounds in his heart.
"You’re treading into new territory, Hera," he continued solemnly, returning his gaze to her. Her breathing remained undisturbed. "Or rather, you’re pushing boundaries and blurring lines. But then again, I’ve crossed a few. I suppose we’re at a deadlock."
"Hence, I will maintain this facade indefinitely, keeping you oblivious," he added. "Let’s commit to this and live in this pretense... forever."
As the echo of his voice faded into silence, Dragon remained seated, his eyes fixed on her, contemplating a future with the two of them, a serene life with their children.
