Chapter 776: Slower than a turtle
Meanwhile...
Ivy halted in the entryway of her apartment, furrowing her brows as she surveyed her surroundings with keen attention. A sudden wave of nervousness gripped her heart, prompting her to clasp her hand closer to her chest.
"Has someone been here?" she wondered, sensing that something was amiss.
Ivy took a cautious step back, holding her breath nervously. Living alone for an extended period had honed her instinct to be wary whenever someone entered her room or home in her absence. Fearful of an intruder lurking within her own sanctuary, Ivy tiptoed her way out, exhaling a deep sigh of relief as soon as she stepped beyond her door.
"Oh, god." Ivy retreated a few steps from the entrance, casting a wary gaze at it with trembling eyes. She reached into her purse with shaky hands, fishing out her phone. Despite not confirming anything, she immediately called for security. It was easier to be labeled paranoid than to risk her safety.
Within moments, a team of five security guards rushed to her floor. Upon seeing Ivy shaking in the hallway, concern filled their eyes.
"Miss Wei, are you alright?" inquired the first security guard who reached her.
"Oh, god!" Ivy perked up, holding her phone in front of her. "Thank you for coming immediately. I think someone is inside my place."
The security guards furrowed their brows, directing their attention to her unit. As they did, Ivy began explaining.
"I know this sounds crazy, but when I came in, I felt like someone was inside. So I hurriedly went out." Her voice quivered, and her entire body shivered as she turned her head back to the door. "But while waiting for security, I heard some noises inside."
Ivy swallowed nervously, looking back at the security. "Can you please check?"
