Chapter 769: The reward
"You’ve served me for years, and your contributions have been invaluable. Considering your years of service, I can release you if you wish. Resign and be with your sister indefinitely."
"It’s not what you think. I brought you in because you were a skilled professional. You adapted quickly, and you even introduced that woman to me."
"Now that Hera and I are on good terms and my plans have come to fruition, I’ve considered giving you your freedom back. I can’t reward June anymore, but given her efforts and yours, I believe you’ve earned this."
Dragon’s words, not long ago, replayed in Deborah’s mind like a broken record as she stood motionless in front of her sister’s grave. She slowly balled her hands into a tight fist, eyes barely blinking, tears running down her cheek.
According to the university, a top student in their university had met with an accident weeks before graduation. They reported that Tarrah was on her way home when her taxi got involved in a traffic collision. Both she and the taxi driver died.
Everyone thought it was unfortunate. Tarrah was a bright student, a role model. If this unfortunate event hadn’t happened, she would’ve graduated as the top student in her class. But alas...
"Tarrah..." Deborah’s mouth parted as she breathed a jagged breath. "I’m... sorry."
Deborah clenched her teeth, unable to stop tears streaming down her face. Her eyes remained on the gravestone where her sister’s name was engraved. The withering flowers proved this happened not long ago.
Not long ago...
