Hera savored a cup of tea in the garden, immersed in the beauty around her while skillfully arranging flowers in the pavilion. Deborah, joining her, disrupted the serene atmosphere.
"You’re leaving?" Hera frowned as she looked at Deborah across from her. "Why? Did Frank scold you?"
"Haha. No." Deborah chuckled, shaking her head. "It’s not about a scolding. I’m retiring."
The lines on Hera’s forehead deepened, assessing Deborah’s beautiful face. "Retiring? But you seem too young for that."
"I’ve been working since I was sixteen, Hera." Deborah breathed out. "Countless odd jobs led me to this point. My life was dedicated to supporting my little sister, especially during her fragile health. Minimum wage wasn’t enough, and being deemed ’uneducated’ due to my incomplete education made finding stable employment difficult."
A subtle smile appeared on Deborah’s lips. "Your husband was the only one who trusted me and saw me for my character. If not for him, I don’t think I can provide properly for her. Thanks to him, I could afford my sister’s medical expenses and send her to prestigious schools."
Hera’s expression slowly relaxed as Deborah spoke words of gratitude toward Dragon. Although Deborah had more negative experiences and comments about the man, she had to acknowledge the positive impact he had on her life since joining the organization.
Being a person who used to sell her body for a living and being in a crime organization was the same. What mattered was that she persevered and lasted this long. Her younger sister was graduating now, and she was no longer as sickly as she used to be. Deborah had a significant amount of savings, so even if she retired now, she could still live in comfort.
