Chapter 79 The Devil Turning Saint.
The air in the room had suddenly turned stiff after Ashley’s words. But the boy remained smiling, clearly not knowing the meaning of the glances his parents exchanged.
Had they just heard right? Ashley, saved by Angelina? The very same Angelina Fernandez they knew? Scheming, witchy and all?
Uh-uh, no way in hell that actually happened. But it was also clear that Ashley wasn’t lying. The bundled demon of joy looked far too innocent to be lying. At times Leonica even feared that the kid didn’t even know how to lie and now was no different.
So, it was either his brain was still a bit muddled from the entire experience or the doctors had given him some sort of shot that messed up his entire mind and made him mouth speak all kind of rubbish, or perhaps both.
Leonica chugged her son’s strange behavior and unreal words up to the two. Chuckling, she gently brought his hands down. “Ash, Honey, tell me, do you feel alright? Do I.. need to question the doctor about your shots?”
“Nope.” The child was quick to shake his head. This time around however, he didn’t miss the glances his parents exchanged. And as much as he was glad that either of the two wasn’t trying to bite one’s head off, he couldn’t ignore the waves of misunderstanding that was shooting out of their eyes.
Oh, but it wasn’t towards one another. With each glance in her direction, the waves were being directed toward the brunette Aunty who had saved him.
“Ash, are you sure about what you’re saying?” Gabriel was the one who asked this time. Both he and Leonica were questioning their son about the woman who had saved him, the very same woman who was in their midst but had not been given the chance to speak for herself.
And against his better will, that one nagging sensation in the back of his mind that Ashley was still too young to understand, telling him to keep quiet, Ashley spoke up. “Yes daddy. You see my school had gone on an excursion today. We went to the zoo,” Gabriel glanced at Leonica for confirmation and she gave him a subtle nod, indicating that she knew of the trip. “but on our way back, huge irons suddenly feel from the sky?”
And that was when Ashley lost them. Huge Irons? Falling from the sky? How exactly was that possible?
“The construction site nearby had a scaffolding malfunction.” Angelina spoke up for the first time, voice low and innocent, which died further as Leonica and Gabriel turned to look at her, showing an indication that they acknowledged her presence for the first time in long minutes.
